Rice Reserve Stock Increased To 300,000 Metric Tonnes Amid Global Energy Crisis Concerns

Kuala lumpur: The government has increased the country's rice reserve stock to 300,000 metric tonnes as an early measure against potential supply disruptions arising from the global energy crisis. Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu announced this strategic move to ensure that the rice supply remains sufficient and secure, focusing on safeguarding the basic needs of the population.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the minister emphasized the government's ongoing efforts to monitor the situation closely and work diligently to address the basic needs of the citizens. Mohamad Sabu also urged citizens to practice thrift and avoid wastage, highlighting the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining food security.

The decision to boost rice reserves is part of a broader strategy to fortify national food security. Mohamad Sabu had previously stated on March 13 that the government had agreed to increase the national rice reserve stock to sustain a nine-month supply period. This precautionary step aims to ensure food supply security amid geopolitical uncertainties in West Asia, reflecting the government's proactive approach to potential global supply chain disruptions.
