Kulim: Police have confirmed that the man seen being dragged off his motorcycle by an officer in a viral video tested positive for drugs. Kulim district deputy police chief DSP Tengku Mohd Faisal Tengku Yeng said officers on patrol detained the suspect on Jalan Sungai Ular around 11 am.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the incident unfolded when police attempted to detain the suspect, leading to a struggle as the suspect retaliated by kicking an officer's motorcycle before attempting to flee. The suspect reportedly rode recklessly, against traffic, posing a risk to other road users.
Authorities pursued the suspect for approximately five kilometres before managing to apprehend him. A search of the suspect's motorcycle revealed two clear plastic packets suspected to contain ketum water. Further tests indicated that the suspect's initial urine test was positive for methamphetamine.
The 32-year-old suspect, who has a previous criminal record, is set to be produced in court for a remand application. The case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952, Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Police have urged the public to refrain from making negative speculations about the incident.
A 29-second video that circulated widely on social media depicted the man being forcibly removed from his motorcycle, followed by an officer stomping on his head.
