Korea’s Liberation: Kim Il Sung’s Strategic Leadership and Guerrilla Warfare

Pyongyang: August 15, 1945, marks a significant turning point in Korea's history as it was liberated from Imperialist military occupation, which had persisted since 1905. The liberation effort was spearheaded by Comrade Kim Il Sung, who established the Down-with-Imperialism Union in October 1926, heralding a decisive war against imperialism with the aim of achieving Korea's independence through the efforts of its own people.According to Lao News Agency, Kim Il Sung challenged the prevailing theories of national liberation that relied on the success of revolutions in suzerain countries. He proposed that independence could only be attained through the struggle of the colonial people themselves. To counter the armed enemy and liberate the nation, he championed armed struggle, particularly guerrilla warfare, and founded the Korean People's Revolutionary Army (KPRA). This approach was deemed essential due to the absence of established theories or experiences related to national liberation struggles in colonial c ontexts. The KPRA began with just over a hundred individuals and faced the formidable challenge of confronting a well-equipped, million-strong Imperialist Army. Despite the odds, the KPRA, under Kim Il Sung's leadership, employed innovative guerrilla strategies to secure successive victories. Crucially, Korea's liberation was not achieved solely by military force; it was also the result of the great unity among the people. Kim Il Sung established the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland, rallying a nationwide coalition of patriots and mobilizing a mass resistance against imperialism. On August 9, 1945, the KPRA initiated a general offensive against the Imperialist forces, following Kim Il Sung's orders. This offensive was supported by an armed uprising from local populations throughout the country. The culmination of these efforts led to Korea's liberation, enabling the nation to emerge as a democratic, independent, and sovereign state on the world stage.
