Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) has revoked the licence of Al Aisy Travel and Tour Sdn Bhd, effective March 31, under Section 8 of the Tourism Industry Act 1992 (Act 482).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the company lost its licence after neglecting to secure accommodation and transport in Madinah in advance, as outlined in its umrah package itinerary. This failure amounts to a clear breach of the company's legal obligations and conditions of its licence under paragraphs 8(1)(a) and (b) of Act 482.

"The company also deviated from the tour schedule and failed to provide return flight tickets for 36 pilgrims, leaving them stranded in Madinah, Saudi Arabia," MOTAC said. This conduct was deemed detrimental to the public interest, tourism industry, and national economy, constituting a violation under paragraph 8(1)(d) of Act 482.

MOTAC highlighted that these actions created safety risks, financial hardship, and disruption of worship for the pilgrims, while raising serious questions about the company's credibility and integrity. The incident has eroded public trust in the tourism sector as a whole.

"MOTAC will not compromise on any breach of the law by licensed tourism operators. We are committed to protecting the welfare and interests of the Malaysia MADANI people," the statement added.
