Bernama Photographer Receives Tabung Kasih@HAWANA Aid After Road Crash

Kota bharu: A photographer from the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) who was injured in a road crash on Saturday has become the 726th beneficiary of the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA donation. The donation was presented by Bernama Kelantan bureau chief Muhammad Afiq Mohd Asri to Muhammad Mustaqim Khairuddin, 33, at the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital to assist with his medical expenses during his recovery.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the accident occurred at 8:30 am while Muhammad Mustaqim was on his way to the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport to cover the opening of a new terminal by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The crash took place on Jalan Wakaf Siku when he attempted to avoid a car, lost control, hit a divider, and was thrown from his motorcycle. As a result, he sustained a broken shoulder and right thigh. Although his condition is stable, his mobility is significantly restricted.

Muhammad Mustaqim, with a decade of service at Bernama, is scheduled for surgery next Sunday to have an implant fitted in his right thigh. His wife, Yasirah Yauzi, 30, is caring for him, assisting with his daily needs, including meals and movement. He expressed gratitude for the support from Tabung Kasih@HAWANA and his media colleagues.

Tabung Kasih@HAWANA is an initiative by the Communications Ministry through Bernama, launched in April 2023 in conjunction with National Journalists' Day (HAWANA). The welfare fund offers medical support, emergency aid, and one-time financial assistance to media practitioners facing challenges due to illnesses, accidents, or urgent needs. Since its inception, the fund has supported 725 media workers with a total allocation of RM2.114 million.
