Manila: Tropical Storm Marce, internationally known as Yinxing, is projected to affect regions previously impacted by tropical cyclones Kristine (Trami) and Leon (Kong-rey), as reported by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Monday. "Marce's track is in the middle of Kristine and Leon's track. Those in areas affected by the two cyclones should prepare as these are the same areas that may be affected by Marce," explained PAGASA meteorologist Veronica Torres during a briefing.According to Philippines News Agency, the cyclone was last tracked 775 km east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar as of 10 a.m., moving west northwest at a speed of 35 kilometers per hour (kph). PAGASA has forecasted that Marce will make landfall in the vicinity of Babuyan Islands or mainland northern Cagayan either on Thursday night or Friday."As Marce becomes nearer, PAGASA might issue storm signals and rainfall advisories in the next days. People in Northern and Central Luzon sho uld coordinate with their local disaster risk reduction units," forecaster Chris Perez mentioned in the same briefing. Northern Luzon, particularly extreme Northern Luzon, along with Central Luzon, are expected to experience storm signals and heavy rainfall due to Marce's trajectory, according to Torres.The cyclone is currently packing maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center, with gustiness reaching up to 90 kph. It is anticipated to intensify, potentially reaching typhoon status by Wednesday. Meanwhile, Torres noted that the trough of Marce is currently affecting extreme Northern Luzon and the eastern section of Luzon, with these areas likely to experience moderate to heavy, and even torrential rainfall beginning Tuesday.Though no gale warning has been issued as of Monday, Torres advised that small motorbancas should steer clear of the seaboards of Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur due to rough sea conditions.
