Laurel: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has pledged to personally visit and manage the recovery and rehabilitation efforts in the typhoon-affected areas. During his visit to Laurel, Batangas, one of the regions severely impacted by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name Trami), the President emphasized his commitment to oversee the distribution of government assistance.According to Philippines News Agency, the President stated that the approach taken in Batangas would be replicated in all areas affected by Typhoon Kristine and Typhoon Leon. Marcos highlighted that the greater the damage caused by the storms, the more robust the response would be, reflecting the administration's resolve to aid those affected. He stressed the importance of personally overseeing disaster response and rehabilitation efforts, rather than solely relying on reports.The President assured that despite the ongoing flow of aid to the provinces, he would visit them to ensure the delivery and effectiveness of rehabilitat ion work. He expressed a desire to witness firsthand the progress being made in the devastated areas, emphasizing his dissatisfaction with merely receiving reports.Prior to his visit in Laurel, Marcos visited Barangay Sampaloc in Talisay, another affected area, where a landslide caused by Kristine resulted in at least 20 fatalities. During his visits, he distributed PHP109.78 million in government aid to the victims. Six Batangas municipalities received PHP10 million each from the Department of Social Welfare and Development. Additionally, the Office of the President distributed PHP10,000 to selected beneficiaries in Agoncillo, Laurel, and Talisay.Housing materials worth over PHP6 million, donated by Metrobank Foundation, Inc., were also distributed to beneficiaries in Talisay, Agoncillo, and Laurel through the Department of Social Housing and Urban Development.
