USM RETAINS SELF-ACCREDITED UNIVERSITY STATUS

GEORGE TOWN, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) has successfully maintained its self-accredited university status accorded by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) until 2027.

USM in a statement today said the recognition of the self-accreditation status was given following an audit carried out by MQA which has assessed and identified the strengths and essential areas of USM.

According to the statement, the agency also congratulated USM on the achievement and hoped that the audit results would help the university in implementing its future plans.

“It is a certificate that qualifies a Higher Education Provider (PPT) to accredit its own academic or study programme based on the Malaysian Qualifications Framework (MQF) and the standards and regulations set by the MQA and the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) from time to time, except professional programmes that require accreditation and recognition by relevant professional bodies.

“However, as a university with self-accreditation status, the MQA will carry
out an Institutional audit to maintain the status every 5 years for the university,” according to the statement.

USM was awarded self-accreditation status by MQA on April 29, 2010.

In a statement, USM said the Self-Accreditation Compliance Audit was conducted on February 8, 9 and 14, 2022 and the Follow-up Audit on the conditions for maintaining self-accreditation was held on August 17, 2023.

According to the statement, after completing the audit, USM maintained its status as a self-accredited university from March 25 until 2027.

“The University would like to express its gratitude to the USM Self Accreditation Centre led by its director Prof Dr Azura A Rashid and also to all the other Centres of Responsibility (PTJ) involved in the auditing exercise,” it said.
