Siem reap: A new youth-led enterprise in the Angkor region is harnessing the power of local products and skills to stimulate community economic growth, create jobs, and provide vocational training.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the initiative, known as “Pop Up Cafe,” was founded by Mr. Sotr Suor from Prasat Bakong district in Siem Reap province. The enterprise is dedicated to enhancing local livelihoods by training young residents in professional coffee and beverage preparation, baking, and ice cream production, with a focus on high standards of customer service and hygiene.
Mr. Suor highlighted the group’s connection to the Angkor community as the driving force behind their mission, emphasizing a ‘Khmer helping Khmer’ ethos. The cafe sources its fruits and raw materials directly from local farmers and producers, strengthening local agriculture and celebrating the region’s culinary heritage.
Pop Up Cafe is strategically located to serve both the community and tourists, with two outlets: one along National Road 6 in Prasat Bakong’s grilled chicken market area, and another in front of the Angkor Wat temple complex. Mr. Suor pointed out that the business complements the Angkor Archaeological Park, enhancing the tourist experience while promoting environmental sustainability through reduced plastic use.
