Senate President Welcomes Japan’s Top Army Official in Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh: President of the Cambodian Senate, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, received H.E. Gen. MORISHITA Yasunori, Chief of Staff of Japan’s Ground Self-Defence Force, during a courtesy visit in Phnom Penh this morning.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Techo Hun Sen warmly welcomed H.E. Gen. MORISHITA and expressed confidence that the visit would further strengthen the relations and cooperation between Cambodia and Japan. Samdech Techo Hun Sen also extended his congratulations to H.E. Gen. MORISHITA for receiving a decoration from Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia.

The Senate President expressed satisfaction with the Cambodia-Japan strategic partnership and noted continued progress in bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of national defence, trade, and investment. He also took the opportunity to brief the Japanese delegation on the current situation leading to the recent border tension between Cambodia and Thailand, and called on Japan to support a peaceful resolution in accordance with international law.

For his part, H.E. Gen. MORISHITA expressed condolences over the death of a Cambodian soldier during the recent border clash with Thailand and reaffirmed Japan’s hope for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing issues.
