Regional Workshop on Older People’s Association Enhancement

Mutual learning and experience sharing on the issues faced by elderly populations and how to maximise their productivity were the results of the recent regional workshop recently hosted by Cambodia at Siem Reap province.

In addition to health and economic issues – addressed H.E. Mom Bunthan, Under Secretary of State for Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation, Cambodian elderly people are encountering issues of their children’s migration.

Cambodia had around 1.3 million elderly people or 8.3 percent of the total population in 2015, added H.E. Mom Bunthan, and the number was expected to be 5 million in 2050.

The ASEAN workshop, titled Enhancement of Older People’s Association, also brought to light best lessons learned in the formation and management of elderly association wherein appropriate services and care can be ensured.

The workshop is well aligned with the effort of the Royal Government of Cambodia in developing National Policy on Elderly People 2017-2030.
