PHILIPPINES TURNS OVER CHAIRMANSHIP OF ASEAN COMMITTEE IN ROME

Philippine Ambassador to Italy Domingo P. Nolasco turned over the rotating chairmanship of the ASEAN Committee in Rome (ACR) to Viet Nam Ambassador Cao Chinh Thien during a handover ceremony held at the Philippine Embassy in Rome on January 12.

Under its chairmanship, the Philippines organized various activities aimed at raising the profile of the ASEAN community in Italy and at promoting the ASEAN, its missions, goals and values to the Italian government and the Italian public, in general.

The Philippines led the commemoration of the 49th founding anniversary of ASEAN and organized an ASEAN Family Day and an ASEAN Working Mission in Florence. The Philippine Embassy in Rome also conducted monthly ACR Ambassadors meetings, ACR working group meetings and hosted an ACR monthly luncheon.

Ambassador Nolasco expressed his sincere appreciation to the ACR members for their full support and cooperation during the Philippine chairmanship from July to December 2016.

The ASEAN Committee in Rome is composed of ASEAN members with Embassies in Rome – Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. END
