Ministry and World Bank Collaborate on Enhancing Water Security in Cambodia

Phnom penh: The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology and the World Bank have discussed cooperation and further investment to strengthen water security in Cambodia.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the discussion took place during a meeting between H.E. Thor Chetha, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology, and Mrs. Maria Angelica Sotomayor, Water Practice Manager for the East Asia and Pacific Region at the World Bank office in Phnom Penh on July 8.

H.E. Thor Chetha highlighted that Cambodia’s Tonle Sap Lake, known for its biodiversity and wetland areas, is crucial for securing the country’s water resources. He emphasized that preserving the lake is essential not only for maintaining food security but also for building climate resilience and supporting local livelihoods.

The minister urged the World Bank to assist in coordinating with development partners for a long-term investment strategy. This includes exploring opportunities through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) approach to maximize the benefits of developing the Tonle Sap Lake.
