MFA Press Statement: Visit by Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman to the Islamic of Iran, 4 to 8 Apr 2017

Senior Minister of State (SMS), Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, who is currently visiting the Islamic Republic of Iran at the invitation of Iran First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Morteza Samadi, called on Iran Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tehran earlier today. Minister Zarif and SMS Maliki affirmed the warm and friendly relations between Singapore and Iran, and welcomed the good exchange of bilateral visits over the past year. They also exchanged views on global developments, as well as on developments in the Middle East and the Asia Pacific. Prior to meeting Minister Zarif, SMS also met with President of the Iran Institute of Political and International Studies Dr Seyed Sajjadpour to discuss academic exchanges between Singapore and Iran.

While in Isfahan Province on 6 and 7 April 2017, SMS Maliki called on Governor-General of Isfahan Province Dr Rasoul Zargarpour and Mayor of Isfahan City Dr Mehdi Jamalinejad. During those meetings, SMS Maliki proposed that Singapore and Isfahan, which was the third largest metropolitan area in Iran, could learn from each other in the fields of heritage preservation and urban solutions.

SMS Maliki will attend a roundtable discussion with the Iran Strategic Council for Foreign Relations before departing Tehran for Singapore this evening.
