Korea Eximbank to Enhance Collaboration with Cambodia’s Ministry of Rural Development

Phnom penh: Korea Eximbank is committed to further strengthening its partnership with the Ministry of Rural Development to contribute to Cambodia’s rural development efforts. This commitment was reiterated by the outgoing Director of Korea Eximbank in Cambodia, Ms. Minnie Chey, during a farewell meeting with H.E. Chhay Rithysen, the Minister of Rural Development, on July 8.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Ms. Minnie Chey praised the cooperation between the ministry and Korea Eximbank, particularly in implementing projects under the Korea Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF). During her three-year tenure in Cambodia, she emphasized the vital role of rural roads as essential economic arteries.

H.E. Chhay Rithysen underscored the importance of the government’s collaboration with stakeholders like Korea Eximbank in Cambodia’s development. Over the past 15 years, the EDCF, through Korea Eximbank, has provided concessional loans exceeding US$1.9 billion to Cambodia.

The Ministry of Rural Developmen
t has been utilizing EDCF’s funding to execute seven projects worth over US$400 million, aimed at constructing rural roads and other essential infrastructure and facilities. The minister encouraged Korea Eximbank to continue supporting initiatives such as model village development to boost growth in rural regions.
