Kedah MB Urges Assemblymen To Safeguard Integrity, Fight Corruption

Alor setar: Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor called on state assemblymen in Kedah to play a firmer role as guardians of integrity and a check-and-balance mechanism, to ensure governance remains transparent, accountable, and free from corruption. He emphasized the need for an integrated approach involving all parties, including elected representatives and enforcement agencies, in today's modern administrative landscape.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Muhammad Sanusi stressed the importance of assemblymen not only conveying the people's aspirations but also ensuring every policy is understood, implemented effectively, and monitored transparently at the grassroots level. He was speaking at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) engagement programme with Kedah Assemblymen 2026, Wisma Darul Aman.

He highlighted the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) 2024-2028 as a crucial measure in combating corruption systematically, focusing on areas like education, public accountability, the people's voice, enforcement, and incentives. He reiterated that success in this fight requires unwavering commitment from all parties to transform policy into action.

Muhammad Sanusi reminded that government allocations must be managed with integrity, projects implemented transparently, and decisions made without conflict of interest. He warned that eroding public trust impacts not only individuals but the entire state administration.

He also recognized the MACC as a vital partner in strengthening the anti-corruption framework, particularly through educational approaches and sustainable system improvements.

Meanwhile, MACC deputy chief commissioner (Prevention) Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman noted that corruption issues arise not from weak laws but from systems lacking effective control and transparent oversight. He pointed out that leakage in public fund management reflects the entire governance chain and can become a pattern if weaknesses are not properly controlled, ultimately weakening the system.
