Dr Mahathir Extends Condolences Over Khoo Kay Kim’s Passing

KUALA LUMPUR, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has expressed his condolences to the family members of historian and academician Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Dr Khoo Kay Kim. who died today. He was 82.

Dr Mahathir described Khoo’s passing as a truly great loss to the country.

My deepest condolences to family members of Malaysia’s own son, Emeritus Professor Tan Sri Datuk Dr Khoo Kay Kim who had passed away this morning.

A renown historian who had contributed so much for the country, his passing is truly a great loss, he posted in his Twitter, today.

Khoo died of a lung infection at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre in Petaling Jaya at about 10 am.

Khoo, who was born in Kampar, Perak, leaves behind wife Puan Sri Rathi Khoo, 75, and three sons, Eddin, 50, Rubin, 47, and Mavin, 42.

He was one of the writers who drafted the Rukun Negara (National Philosophy) after the race riots in 1969.

Khoo will be laid to rest at the Nirvana Memorial Park in Shah Alam on Saturday.

Meanwhile, later during Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s press conference when asked on Khoo’s demise Dr Mahathir said the historian always spoke the truth.

He spoke about Chinese, Malays and Indians and on the past and in present, and people always respected his views. With his passing, we have lost a very good thinker and historian, he said.
