Phnom penh: Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, received a congratulatory phone call this evening from U.S. President H.E. Donald Trump, who personally commended him on the successful negotiation of an immediate ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand. The call came shortly after Samdech Thipadei returned from Malaysia, where he had participated in ceasefire talks with the Acting Prime Minister of Thailand.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, President Trump underscored the importance of the agreement and confirmed that he has been closely monitoring the situation. President Trump noted that for the ceasefire to be fully and sustainably implemented, a clear mechanism must be established to monitor and oversee compliance by all relevant parties-an issue that was also agreed upon at the meeting.

Samdech Thipadei expressed gratitude to President Trump for initiating and promoting the early ceasefire negotiations, as well as for the U.S.’s co-organisation of the special meeting
in Malaysia, which was also attended by a representative of the Chinese government. In this regard, President Trump confirmed the U.S.’s participation in the monitoring process and expressed its continued support for the mechanism coordinated by Malaysia to ensure successful implementation.

President Trump extended his congratulations to both Cambodia and Thailand for reaching a ceasefire agreement through a message on social media. He remarked, “By ending this war, we have saved thousands of lives,” and announced that he has instructed his Trade Team to restart negotiations on trade.

The ceasefire agreement follows five days of armed clashes along the border, with Cambodia and Thailand agreeing to implement an immediate and unconditional ceasefire beginning at midnight tonight.
