Phnom penh: Cambodian media, both state and private, are operating with self-reliance and adaptability in the digital era, confirmed H.E. Tep Asnarith, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Information.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, technological advancements have driven media organisations to evolve their broadcasting methods, combining traditional platforms with modern digital channels. While Cambodia continues to preserve the legacy of traditional media, it has also embraced digital means to meet changing public consumption trends.
Under the leadership of Minister of Information H.E. Neth Pheaktra, the Kampuchea newspaper – a traditional print publication – has been relaunched, reflecting the ministry’s commitment to preserving media heritage while strengthening the reach and capacity of digital platforms.
H.E. Tep Asnarith observed that both state and private media outlets are adapting to the demands of the technological era through strong competition in quality, professional ethics, digital skills, planning, and management. These efforts aim to earn public trust and attract support from private companies and partner countries, ensuring the sector’s sustainability and self-reliance.
A recent Ministry of Information survey, based on direct inputs from 467 journalists and media stakeholders across all 25 provinces and the capital, found that over 86 percent of respondents felt they enjoyed full freedom and safety in performing their duties, including easy access to information sources.
The survey also showed that 81.4 percent rated press freedom in Cambodia as ‘very good,’ with 72.2 percent calling it ‘good’ and 9.2 percent ‘excellent.’ In addition, 96 percent of journalists believed Cambodia has a strong media system that delivers information to citizens nationwide, and 97 percent agreed that this has contributed to promoting press freedom in the Kingdom.
In the digital age, both state and private media are increasingly active on social media platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, X (Twitter), and Telegram, further expanding their reach and audience engagement.
