Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Engages with EU High Representative on Bilateral Relations

Brussels: Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Sok Chenda Sophea met in Brussels this week with H.E. Ms. Kaja Kallas, the European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Global Gateway Forum at the EU headquarters.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations in light of Cambodia’s achievements in socio-economic development. The two parties reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation under the EU Multiannual Indicative Programme for Cambodia from 2021 to 2027, which provides 237 million euros (275 million dollars) to support sustainable development, good governance, and inclusive growth.

The EU High Representative commended Cambodia’s contribution to humanitarian demining training for Ukraine. On the Cambodia-Thailand situation, the two sides underlined the importance of advancing diplomatic principles and respecting the agreed ceasefire to ensure lasting peace and sustainable development along border areas.

Both sides exchanged views on strengthening civil society and promoting media freedom.
