Cambodia Confirms Energy Independence from Thai Power Supply

Phnom Penh: Electricit© du Cambodge (EDC) has confirmed that Cambodia is not currently importing electricity from Thailand to supply any part of the country.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, EDC issued a press release this afternoon stating, “Electricit© du Cambodge would like to reject any statements that contradict the above facts.” This statement aims to address recent remarks reported by The Nation Thailand, citing a senior officer from the Royal Thai Armed Forces, who claimed that “Cambodia has cut electricity imports from Thailand at three locations along the border, leaving six points still receiving power.”

Recently, Cambodian Minister of Mines and Energy H.E. Keo Rottanak has also reaffirmed that the Kingdom has sufficient domestic electricity supply to meet current demand. The minister’s statement supports EDC’s position, emphasizing Cambodia’s capability to sustain its energy needs independently.
