Cambodia and Dominica Sign MoU for Bilateral Consultations Between Foreign Ministries

Phnom penh: The Kingdom of Cambodia and the Commonwealth of Dominica have formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at establishing bilateral consultations between their respective Ministries of Foreign Affairs. The signing ceremony was held at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh, attended by Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and the visiting Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Honorable Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, both leaders emphasized the significance of the MoU as a foundational step to enhance practical cooperation in areas of mutual interest. They urged relevant ministries and institutions to further strengthen and expand relations through this consultation mechanism, which will convene biennially. The consultations will cover a range of topics including politics, diplomacy, consular affairs, security, economy, trade, investment, culture, environment, education, training, research, and development.

During their meeting, the two Prime Ministers also explored ways to bolster cooperation in key sectors such as politics and diplomacy, economy, trade, agriculture, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet highlighted the importance of Honorable Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit’s visit as an opportunity to reinforce and broaden bilateral ties, particularly as 2023 marks the 15th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Dominica.

Honorable Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit expressed gratitude to the Royal Government of Cambodia for their warm hospitality and praised the country’s developmental strides. He expressed optimism about the future of the two nations’ partnership, anticipating further growth and deepening of cooperation.

The discussion also touched upon the Cambodia-Thailand border situation, with Samdech Thipadei reaffirming Cambodia’s commitment to peaceful resolution in line with existing agreements and international law. Honorable Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit acknowledged the issue and supported efforts toward a peaceful settlement.

Honorable Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit is in Phnom Penh for a three-day working visit, which began on October 8.
