MOT Prioritizes SOP Improvements After KLIA Baggage Handling Failure

Kuala lumpur: The Transport Ministry (MOT) is focusing on improving standard operating procedures (SOPs) following the baggage handling system (BHS) failure at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 on Saturday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Secretary-general Datuk Seri Jana Santhiran Muniayan stated that the issue was a primary concern in a special meeting he chaired this morning, as per instructions from Transport Minister Anthony Loke. The ministry is addressing the incident with urgency due to the significant baggage delays of up to four hours experienced by passengers. Although the system was restored the same night, the ministry acknowledges the need for a comprehensive and effective follow-up.

The meeting concentrated on enhancing SOPs, particularly in areas like response time, passenger communication, and contingency planning, to improve preparedness for any future disruptions. The incident is seen as an opportunity for MOT and other involved parties to conduct a thorough review and address existing weaknesses in the system.

Datuk Seri Jana Santhiran Muniayan emphasized that the priority is to ensure efficient, responsive, and reliable service delivery to maintain public confidence. The meeting included participation from senior management of the ministry, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), the MOT Aviation Division, and representatives from airlines and ground handlers.
