Malaysia Remains Optimistic on 2026 Economic Growth Despite Geopolitical Challenges

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia remains optimistic about its 2026 growth outlook despite uncertain geopolitical issues, stated Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir. He highlighted that Malaysia's economic prospects for 2026 appear more resilient compared to some other nations.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Akmal Nasrullah expressed that Malaysia experienced a strong year in 2025, which extended into the first quarter of 2026, indicating ongoing economic growth. Although geopolitical issues have impacted the economy, he emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive outlook while exercising caution due to Malaysia's relative resilience.

Regarding inflation, Akmal Nasrullah noted a slight increase, with inflation rising from 1.4 percent in February to 1.7 percent in March. However, he assured that the situation remains under control compared to other countries, crediting government policies for easing inflation pressures. He mentioned that inflation impacts extend beyond fuel supply, and the government is building a buffer, such as providing incentives for farmers to sustain agricultural activities.

While current inventory levels and measures may delay the full impact of inflation, Akmal Nasrullah warned that sustained increases in input costs, whether from higher prices or supply constraints, could eventually have broader economic consequences.
