Washington: The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has teamed up with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to conduct a simulation exercise aimed at bolstering America's food security. This two-part event, known as the New World Screwworm simulation, took place earlier this month to prepare for potential animal and public health threats.According to EMM, the exercise featured participation from 80 in-person attendees and over 170 virtual attendees, including key decision-makers from federal, state, local, and tribal authorities. The event was organized to enhance national readiness and improve coordination among various agencies in the face of emerging threats to the nation's food supply. The New World Screwworm simulation is part of a broader effort by these agencies to ensure that the United States remains vigilant against potential threats that could impact both animal and public health. The collaboration between DHS, USDA, and CDC highlig hts the importance of inter-agency coordination when it comes to safeguarding the nation's food security.
