Acting Cambodian Head of State Urges Strong Morality Amid Provocations

Cambodia: Cambodian Acting Head of State, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, has called on his compatriots to uphold dignity and strong moral values, stressing that even though Cambodia is a small country with a modest economy, its people must not be weak in morality.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Techo Hun Sen made the appeal following the circulation of a video showing Thai individuals shooting at his portrait and those of other Cambodian leaders as part of a game to win prizes. He questioned the civility and morality of such actions in a Facebook post, urging Cambodians not to engage in similar disrespectful acts.

He revealed that some of his compatriots suggested creating content targeting the Thai King, but he rejected the idea, emphasizing that replicating such behavior is inhumane. Hun Sen highlighted that the video, whether created by humans or AI, displays immoral behavior that transcends nationality.

The Acting Head of State explained that the video’s intention might be to provoke a reaction during a fragile ceasefire. He appealed to Cambodians not to retaliate or disrespect any Thai leaders, maintaining a dignified stance.

Hun Sen advised Cambodians to refrain from purchasing Thai goods and using the Thai baht, suggesting this could strengthen Cambodia’s monetary independence. He urged avoiding actions against Thai citizens or businesses in Cambodia, expressing belief that most Thais are not adversaries.

According to Samdech Techo, some Thai leaders have misjudged Cambodia’s economic situation post-border closures. He noted that redirecting funds previously spent on Thai goods could bolster Cambodia’s economy, and he cautioned against underestimating Cambodian purchasing power.

Finally, he advised Cambodians, particularly those near the Thai border, to convert Thai baht to riel or U.S. dollars to prevent financial vulnerability. He emphasized that this switch would enhance Cambodia’s financial sovereignty.
