Telecom Minister Shares Cambodia’s Priorities for AI Security at ASEAN AI Malaysia Summit 2025

Kuala lumpur: H.E. Chea Vandeth, Minister of Post and Telecommunications of Cambodia, has shared insights on the preparation of a draft national AI strategy to guide economic and social development in Cambodia, at a panel discussion with the counterparts from Malaysia and Brunei, during the ‘ASEAN AI Malaysia Summit 2025.’

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Chea Vandeth participated in the ‘ASEAN AI Malaysia Summit 2025’ in Kuala Lumpur on Aug. 12, at the invitation of H.E. Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Digital of Malaysia. The summit, opened under the presidency of H.E. Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, was organised by the Ministry of Digital of Malaysia to showcase development progress and promote cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) within ASEAN-particularly highlighting Malaysia’s efforts and achievements. The event brought together approximately 5,000 participants, including ministers, leaders, and senior officials responsible for the digital sector in ASEAN member states, along with representatives from international organisations and the private sector.

H.E. Minister also highlighted Cambodia’s priorities for AI security and its readiness to integrate regional AI governance, particularly through the development of legal frameworks and policies on personal data protection, cybersecurity, cloud technology, data governance, and AI ethics. Furthermore, he participated in a ministerial roundtable on the theme ‘Towards a Unified ASEAN Approach to Responsible AI and Digital Trust.’

To strengthen cooperation and exchange experiences on digital transformation, H.E. Minister also held separate bilateral meetings with H.E. Gobind Singh Deo; H.E. Pengiran Dato Shamhary Pengiran Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications of Brunei; H.E. Miguel Marques Gon§alves Manetelu, Minister of Transport and Communications of Timor-Leste; and H.E. David L. Almirol, Undersecretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology of the Philippines.

In addition, H.E. Minister Chea Vandeth held courtesy meetings with Mr. Terry He, President of Huawei Asia-Pacific Region, and Mr. Khailee Ng, Managing Partner at 500 Global, a venture capital firm focusing on digital startups. These courtesy meetings aimed to strengthen regional ties and seek support and participation in major digital initiatives in Cambodia, with the goal of building a strong, vibrant, and trusted digital ecosystem.
