MPTC Senior Official Considers Data as National Asset

Phnom penh: Secretary of State at the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPTC) H.E. Sok Puthyvuth has emphasised the importance of considering data as a national asset, which serves as a key foundation for digital economy and society development, in alignment with the Pentagonal Strategy Phase 1 and the Digital Government Policy 2022-2035. He made the highlight while presiding over the Deep Dive Workshop on the ‘Draft Data Governance Policy,’ held at Sun and Moon Riverside Hotel on Aug. 12.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the workshop gathered approximately 60 participants, including leaders, senior officials, and data governance experts from the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications. H.E. Secretary of State also stated that the workshop was organised with three main objectives, including ensuring common understanding on the content of the draft policy before proceeding to further discuss and collect inputs from relevant ministries and institutions, conducting in-depth discussions on each action plan among technical officials to assess feasibility and practical implementation of the policy, and gathering key inputs from technical officials to help define the direction for implementing the policy’s supporting action plan in the future.

In order to gather input for refining the draft Data Governance Policy, the workshop was divided into four discussion sessions covering four topics, such as Establishing Data Governance, Data Management, Promoting Open Data, and Fostering Data Ecosystem. These discussions were conducted smoothly and productively, which is important for leaders and experts to better understand, comment on, and refine the draft policy to make it more meaningful, practical, and effective, with clear directions and suited to Cambodia’s context.
