Chinese Investment Firms Explore Environmental Partnerships in Cambodia

Phnom penh: Three prominent Chinese investment firms specialising in environmental technologies met here on July 16 afternoon with Cambodia’s Minister of Environment, H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth, to discuss potential collaborations and seek insights into the nation’s environmental policies.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the delegation included representatives from Toyon Energy Co., Ltd., JingLV Environment Co., Ltd., and Shun Yu Water Co., Ltd., all publicly listed companies in China with extensive experience in wastewater treatment, solid waste management, and plastic recycling. The Chinese delegation was led by Mr. Ding Yongjun, President of Morgan Group in Cambodia.

H.E. Eang Sophalleth welcomed the companies’ interest in Cambodia’s environmental sector after their presentations on advanced technologies and innovative waste and wastewater management practices. He underscored Cambodia’s appeal to investors, attributing it to the country’s peaceful environment and the leadership of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet.

The Minister emphasised the Ministry of Environment’s commitment to supporting companies that align with the Royal Government’s circular environmental policy, which prioritises cleanliness, greenery, and sustainability. Key objectives include ensuring clean air, reducing solid and plastic waste, and improving public health.

He highlighted that approximately 11 million Cambodian citizens and students have already pledged to reduce plastic bag usage. The Ministry is actively exploring highly efficient, energy-saving incineration and recycling technologies for collected plastic waste, and is developing long-, medium-, and short-term strategies for comprehensive solid waste management to enhance Cambodia’s environmental cleanliness and public health.

Regarding water cleanliness, the Ministry is seeking advanced wastewater treatment technologies that are cost-effective, energy-efficient, and capable of producing clean water for use in urban and densely populated areas. Minister Eang Sophalleth specifically acknowledged the presence of Toyon Energy, JingLV Environment, and Shun Yu Water, noting that their proven technologies in China could significantly contribute to Cambodia’s environmental goals, further strengthening the “ironclad friendship” between the two nations.

Based in Anhui Province, China, Toyon Energy Co., Ltd., JingLV Environment Co., Ltd., and Shun Yu Water Co., Ltd. possess over two decades of experience in solid waste and plastic collection and recycling, converting waste into reusable products and energy sources. They also utilise advanced, energy-efficient wastewater treatment technologies that transform wastewater into clean water suitable for consumption and other uses.
