Samdech Heng Samrin Bids Farewell to Timor-Leste Ambassador

Phnom Penh: Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, Honorary President of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King and Member of Parliament for Thbong Khmum province, recently hosted a farewell courtesy call from H.E. Ermenegildo Kupa Lopes, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, at the National Assembly Palace.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, during the meeting, Samdech Heng Samrin emphasized the shared historical experiences of Cambodia and Timor-Leste, highlighting their struggles for independence and territorial integrity, and their current achievements. He commended the Ambassador for his role in strengthening ties between the two nations, noting that these relations contribute to regional and global peace and stability.

Samdech Heng Samrin extended his congratulations to Timor-Leste on its upcoming admission as the 11th member of ASEAN in 2025. He reaffirmed Cambodia’s support and expressed confidence that the Timor-Leste National Parliament would soon join the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).

Ambassador Lopes expressed his gratitude to Samdech Heng Samrin for the opportunity to pay his respects and bid farewell. He described his diplomatic tenure in Cambodia as enriching, particularly in observing the leadership skills that have guided Cambodia toward peace and development.

The Ambassador conveyed appreciation for Cambodia’s support of Timor-Leste on regional and international platforms. He noted Timor-Leste’s forthcoming official joining of ASEAN at the 47th ASEAN Summit, attributing this achievement to Cambodia’s support.

Ambassador Lopes also shared that Cambodia is positively regarded among the Timorese people, who value the strong bond between the two countries. He emphasized the importance of remembering Cambodia’s support through all circumstances.

The Ambassador highlighted the recent visit of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, to Timor-Leste as a landmark moment in bilateral relations.
