Cambodia to Tighten Wastewater Control at All Factories


Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has directed local authorities to strengthen oversight of wastewater management at all factories nationwide, to safeguard public health and environmental safety. Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for a wastewater treatment system development project in Takhmao city, Kandal province, Samdech Thipadei emphasized that all industrial wastewater must be properly treated before being discharged into rivers.



According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Premier stressed the importance of proper wastewater treatment, as mismanagement could directly impact people’s well-being. He instructed the Municipal and Provincial Departments of Environment, along with other relevant authorities, to conduct regular inspections and take firm action against factories or enterprises that violate wastewater standards.



Samdech Thipadei emphasized that any factory found discharging untreated or contaminated water must be temporarily suspended until the issue is fully resolved, to prevent health risks to the public.
