Centrient Pharmaceuticals (“Centrient”), the global leader in the production and commercialisation of sustainable, enzymatic antibiotics, next generation statins and anti-fungals, announced that it has filed a lawsuit against Dalas Biotech Limited (“Dalas”) for patent infringement.

ROTTERDAM, Holland, May 01, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Centrient Pharmaceuticals announced that on April 25, 2019, its wholly owned subsidiary, Centrient Pharmaceuticals India Private Limited, filed a lawsuit against Dalas Biotech Limited in the High Court of Delhi in New Delhi, India for patent infringement of Indian Patent Number 247301. By its complaint, Centrient seeks compensation for damages and a permanent injunction to prevent the infringing manufacture, use,  sale in India and exportation out of India of Dalas’ active pharmaceutical ingredient containing amoxicillin trihydrate produced by a process that amounts to infringement of Indian Patent No. 247301.

Karl Rotthier, CEO at Centrient said: “After having previously filed patent litigation against Sinopharm Weiqida Pharmaceuticals for patent infringement in India, and the Court granting an injunction since April 2017, Centrient shows that it will continue to rigorously enforce its IP assets worldwide against any additional potential infringers in India or abroad.”

Israel is the Root Cause of World Instability – Dr Mahathir

KUALA LUMPUR, May 1 (Bernama) Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad once again today described Israel as a terrorist nation and the root cause of instability in the world.

Addressing youths at the Al Sharq Annual Conference 2019 here, the majority of whom are from Middle East countries, the 93-year old leader stressed that the time had come for the international community to stand together and end Israel’s occupation of Palestine.

Apartheid, genocide, crimes against humanity, crimes of aggression and all the evil that mankind can inflict on others can be compiled in Palestine courtesy of the barbaric, arrogant, terrorist nation called Israel.

Until and unless the international community is committed to find a solution to bring an end to the occupation of the land belonging to the Palestinians, the region and the rest of the world will not have much of a chance for stability and order, he said in his keynote address before opening the conference, held the first time in Malaysia.

His brave statement led to overwhelming applause from the 1,000-odd participants.

Describing Palestine as the core of all tragedies, he said the world was not stable and neither did it look like to be so in the near future.

Dr Mahathir said the senseless murder of innocent people continued in the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq by the US-led coalition in 2001/2003 which had seen more tumult than stability in the region before the Arab Springs came about.

Nations like Syria, Libya and Yemen today provide images of a human tragedy while the rest of the world watch helplessly.

Their sufferings did not originate from internal strife but rather interference and interventions from external powers which obviously were doing it out of self-interest, disguised under the veil of democracy and human rights, he said.

The prime minister said that ancient civilisations or rather these cradles of civilisation were pummelled to pulp by present day powers that have styled themselves as the leaders of modern-day civilisation.

There is nothing civilised in their actions or behaviour. The only thing they can showcase is technology capable of producing weaponry that are extremely efficient in maiming, killing and murdering people by the thousands, he said.

Malaysia in this case, he shared that as a multiracial and multi-religious country, it took pride that it had been able to move forward despite the diversity, although he admitted that Malaysia has had its knocks and falls due to the differences but it had also managed to turn them into strengths and reason for unity.

In fact, we have come to believe that we are quite successful as a nation because of diversity. Indeed, managing the diversity is not pleasant at times. Most times, the differences are amplified and the similarities subdued.

We have our own sets of prejudices and bigotry amid our people but by and large, we have come to accept that any attempt to champion one race or religious group at the expense of the other will result in destruction of all that we have worked hard to build.

Instead, we keep working on our common interests and common grounds. It is not easy but we kept plugging at it and Alhamdullillah, we have managed thus far, he said.

He said the differences in religion, race, culture and customs required Malaysian to make compromises and to be accommodating and they had learn to tolerate many things.

Going forward, Dr Mahathir, in his speech titled In Search of a More Just and Stable World Order, said the youths, being the future leaders had a pivotal role in making the world a better place and every leader should keep close to them.

In my many years as a politician and entrusted to lead sometimes, I’ve always tried to tried my level best to fulfil requests from youth organisations and movements.

My reasons are quite basic if I want to see changes made and ambitions realised, the youths are our best bet, he added.

Government Gives Priority to Employment of Citizens – Dr Mahathir

PUTRAJAYA, May 1 2019 (Bernama) The government’s policy today is to give priority to employment of Malaysians, said Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Aware about fears concerning a deluge of foreign workers in the country, he said the government had taken a number of measures to ensure that foreign workers are only employed if really needed by sectors that find it difficult to get local workers, mainly those categorised as 3D (Dirty, Dangerous and Difficult).

Dr Mahathir said that the presence of foreign workers was due to the attitude of Malaysians who did not want to do certain types of work, even though these actually could be done by them.

So, these opportunities are grabbed by foreigners. In the end, they will become rich and we remain the same or become poor, he said when officiating the 2019 Workers Day celebration at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre here today.

Dr Mahathir said the government was also aware about the unemployment rate among youths and understood the need empower the workforce and harness local talent.

Met by reporters after the event, Dr Mahathir admitted that wages were very low in the 3D sector but job opportunities in it should be taken rather than being unemployed.

Pay is low, but if they (citizens) don’t work, there will not be any pay at all. We make the choice, if we work we get paid.

We must remember that we work for the nation, to develop our country, if we do not want to work, others will get the money, we lose, he said.

Dr Mahathir said it (if Malaysians took up employment in the 3D sector) would also prevent outflow of funds.

He noted that the effort should also involve people from all walks of life, including increasing the participation of women in the workforce.

In the era of Internet of Things (IoT), the new version of JobsMalaysia 2.0 portal developed by the Ministry of Human Resources, offered a flexible job search platform for people to increase their job placement chance and reduce mismatch, he added.

People can also get the services of JobsMalaysia through the career carnivals held regularly from time to time, he said.

Dr Mahathir added that the Manpower Department had managed to accommodate 48,372 graduates and 122,868 non-graduates in different sectors of employment through various activities such as career carnivals, client accounts, open interviews, inter-agency collaboration programmes, placement programmes and special groups.

He added that the Ministry of Human Resources and its agencies such as Talent Corporation (TalentCorp) and Pembangunan Sumber Manusia Berhad focused on Malaysians through a number of initiatives.

Dr Mahathir said among the initiatives is to attract and retain female workers by encouraging the employers to implement the Work-Life Practices (WLPs) concept towards a better balance integration between work and life as well as providing a family-friendly environment.

For that purpose, he said the government had provided an incentive of income tax exemption for one year for those back in the workforce between October 27, 2017, and December 31, 2020.

By the end of 2018, a total of 147 organisations in Malaysia have benefited from the implementation of WLPs initiatives, he said.

Other than that, Dr Mahathir said upskilling of women who returned to the workforce after leaving it was also implemented through the Career Comeback Programme (CCP) .

He explained that from 1993 to 2018, a total of RM6.38 billion in training grant payments were channelled to local employers with the status of small and medium-sized enterprises and large companies who contributed levies to Pembangunan Sumber Manusia Berhad.

Dr Mahathir said the channelling of funds was to implement 1.2 million up-skilling and re-skilling trainings for local workers from all over the country.

Themed ‘Pekerja Amanah Aspirasi Negara’ (Trustworthy Workers Nation’s Aspiration) , it was the first Labour Day celebration since the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government took over the country’s leadership on May 9 last year.

The Prime Minister explained that the theme emphasised on how Malaysians, especially workers, should perform their duties and responsibilities with the principle of trust and integrity to spur the prosperity of the country which had diverse cultures, races and religions.

He said a good tripartite relationship, between the government, workers and employers is the driver to the country’s economic growth.

Although there may be times that we have a disagreement, eventually the win-win solution will be achieved and this will benefit the people and the country, he said.

The ceremony was attended by some 5,000 public and private sector employees. Also present were Human Resource Minister M. Kula Segaran, Cabinet ministers, secretaries-general of ministries, representatives of the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs), the Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) and Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF).
